SCOTUS Upholds Dual-Sovereignty Doctrine; Read the opinion

In Gamble v. United States, 17-646, the Supreme Court, 7-2, upheld the longstanding legal principle known as dual-sovereignty. Under the dual-sovereignty doctrine, two offenses are not the “same offence” for double jeopardy purposes if prosecuted by separate sovereigns. Read the June 17, 2019 opinion here.
